{"id":39668,"date":"2023-03-15T16:00:19","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T15:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.teachonmars.com\/?p=39668"},"modified":"2023-03-22T18:15:51","modified_gmt":"2023-03-22T17:15:51","slug":"24h-dans-la-vie-de","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teachonmars.com\/en\/blog\/2023\/03\/24h-dans-la-vie-de\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Day in the life of\u2026&#8221; &#8211; allow your learners to experience the daily life of a colleague"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Discover a comprehensive guide for creating an immersive course which allows your learners to experience an employee or customer\u2019s typical day<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s the purpose of creating an immersive course?<\/h2>\n<p>As part of Women\u2019s Rights Day, we created a course about everyday sexism, which was made accessible free of charge on Teach on Earth, an app which raises awareness about social and environmental issues.\u00a0To best deal with this topic and to have the greatest impact, we sought to make learners feel\/experience everyday sexism.\u00a0To do so, we altered our usual training format and provided a day in the life of a woman immersion.\u00a0The \u2018day in the life of\u2026\u2019 format combines storytelling, immersion, professional guidance and enables learners to really experience the daily life of an employee or customer.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Step 1 \u2013 Creating the character<\/h2>\n<p>The first step is to choose the character\u2019s profile and describe their daily life:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A typical customer<\/li>\n<li>A team member<\/li>\n<li>A service provider, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next, you need to create the character\u2019s profile:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First name<\/li>\n<li>Place of residence\/work<\/li>\n<li>Profession<\/li>\n<li>Personality (character traits, hobbies, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will also be able to add secondary characters (colleagues, family, friends, etc.) who will appear at various stages in the story.<\/p>\n<p>To add credibility to the story, you can supplement it with media such as photos of your character(s) in action, dialogue between two characters in a WhatsApp or audio type conversation for example, screenshots of the character\u2019s telephone, etc.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Step 2 \u2013 Set the tempo of your character\u2019s day<\/h2>\n<p>Now you need to create your character\u2019s typical day and set the right tempo in order to create key moments.<\/p>\n<p>Please note: the high points should help to paint a picture of your character\u2019s day. Don\u2019t forget to include \u2018downtime\u2019 moments such as breaks, etc. to create a realistic typical day.<\/p>\n<p>A typical day should contain at least 5 key moments. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrival in the office\/store\/on-site<\/li>\n<li>Encounter with a colleague, customer, supplier<\/li>\n<li>Lunch break (who do they eat with and where?)<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with X<\/li>\n<li>Return home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To set the tempo of the day, you can add the time for each key moment.\u00a0Here are the \u2018highlights\u2019 of the day in the life of a woman course:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">7:25 am \u2013 she\u2019s been up for over an hour, she is showered, dressed and ready.<br \/>\n8:30 am \u2013 arrives at the office<br \/>\n12:30 pm \u2013 lunch break<br \/>\n2 pm \u2013 meeting with her boss, Bertrand<br \/>\n4:28 pm \u2013 Anna\u2019s phone rings<br \/>\n5:37 pm \u2013 returns home<br \/>\n6:30 pm &#8211; her partner Sam gets home<br \/>\n9:30 pm \u2013 the children go to bed<br \/>\n11:12 pm &#8211; Anna goes to bed<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Step 3 \u2013 Add transmission elements<\/h2>\n<p>Apart from allowing the learner to experience the character\u2019s life, this course is, above all, a way to transmit fundamental concepts about specific skills, protocols, key figures, etc.\u00a0The course should therefore contain \u2018formal\u2019 elements.<\/p>\n<p>????Tip: to separate the natural and formal elements in the character\u2019s day, you can alternate the type of mobile course card.For example, you can create \u2018transition\u2019 type cards for moments of the day and information cards for formal elements.\u00a0What\u2019s more, you\u2019ll need to add at least one scored activity to check that the information conveyed has been learned.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the \u2018day in the life of a woman\u2019 course, we interspersed the key moments in the character\u2019s day with important figures about everyday sexism.\u00a0For example, our character overhears a conversation between two colleagues in which a sexist joke is thrown in.
