Today, we&#8217;re inviting you to (re)discover one of the Teach on Mars activities that will help you engage your learners at the start of a training course, as well as offering many other pluses \u2013 the art of Profiling!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>The &#8220;Profiling&#8221; activity: what exactly is it?<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Profiling is one of our engagement activities that aims to <strong>make the learner central to their training<\/strong> through use of a questionnaire. For each question, learners choose the option that fits them best. At the end of the activity, they get to see their profile (based on their answers). <\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.teachonmars.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/profiling-teach-on-mars-mobile-learning.png&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;-18px|||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The training course &#8220;<strong>How do you remember?<\/strong>&#8221; (on the left), an example of a Profiling question (in the centre) and the resulting profile (on the right).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Different types of profile can be targeted, for example, by defining a level (beginner, intermediate, expert) or a type of personality (influential, shy, curious, etc.). Identifying such profiles will allow you to recommend given modules in a training course.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>The virtues of Profiling<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, Profiling is primarily an engagement activity that generally occurs at the start of a course. It can allow a designer to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Establish the learner&#8217;s need for training:<\/strong> To engage certain learners, it&#8217;s sometimes essential to go through an awareness-raising phase. \u201cI want to train managers in positive feedback and to do that I need learners to understand that their personality will influence their communication biases.\u201d This Profiling phase encourages the learner to ask questions of themselves&#8230; and to look for the answers!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Guide a learner through their training course:<\/strong> Profiling invites learners to follow the content recommended for them, in line with their level; for example, by suggesting they start their training course at module 3 because the first two modules cover information they already know.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make users want to learn by personalising their learning experience:<\/strong> \u201cThis training is made for you!\u201d. When they read their profile, learners should understand why a particular course is the right one for them. By creating a profile that allows learners to recognise themselves, you&#8217;re helping to actively engage them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Examples of good Profiling<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see what Profiling looks like at the start of a training course, we have two examples on our Teach on Mars app (free of charge):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The \u201c<em>How do you remember?<\/em>\u201d course<\/li>\n<li>The latest episode of Mars Attacks entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachonmars.com\/en\/blog\/2020\/09\/mars-attacks-thinking-outside-box\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Thinking outside the box<\/em><\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.teachonmars.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/activites-profiling-a-tester.png&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>You can access these courses from the Teach on Mars app (free of charge), by scanning the QR codes above (with the app scanner from the add-ons page). Leave a comment to tell us about your profile!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>How to create a good Profiling activity<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>For this activity you&#8217;ll need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>a central theme<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>at least 2 profiles<\/strong> and <strong>a description<\/strong> for each of them<\/li>\n<li><strong>at least 3 questions per profile<\/strong>, ideally with a total of around ten questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s all you need to know. Directive \/ Persuasive \/ Participatory \/ Delegating <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What is your salesperson profile? Relational \/ Expert \/ Advisor \/ Hunter<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How green are you? &#8216;Do your bit&#8217; green \/ Green explorer \/ Green master<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>What type of movie buff are you?
